We are in the middle of packing our bags waiting for the bus to pick us up at 2:00AM to take all of us to Oslo to catch a 6:30AM flight to start our travels back to PC and Steamboat. It has been an awesome camp in Lillehammer. Today we wrapped up the jumping portion of the Super Sprint we did yesterday in downtown Lillehammer. I will post the results at www.usnoco.com as soon as I have them.
This week the best Nordic Combined skiers from Norway ages 15 (maybe younger) and up came to Lillehammer for a camp with Saturday's Super Sprint and today's competition highlighting the week. Friday night Billy, Johnny, Magnus, and Petter talked to all the athletes and coaches in attendance for about 45 minutes. The boys talked about NC training, what they do in their free time etc. It was pretty cool to see that these guys are recognized and respected athletes in one of the best Nordic Combined countries in the world.
The second jump we did today was the competition jump for a 10km race in the afternoon. The field was split into juniors and seniors. Sturla Sandoy, the Norwegian junior training with the us, jumped well and skied great finishing the NC event in fifth place. Taylor Fletcher, competing with some of the best juniors in the world had a great competition and finished 8th. Nick Hendrickson, Cliff Field, Colin Delaney, and Brett Denney all had a better competition and will return with some valuable experience.
In the big boy's event, Johnny Spillane won the jumping today and raced in the lead until the end of the last lap and couldn't cover attacks from Moan and Klementsen and finished third. It was a great competition for Johnny, he jumped well and had a great race. Billy D, jumped to 5th and finished in a sprint with Petter Tande for 5th. He started 10 seconds behind the overall winner Magnus Moan but couldn't bridge the gap and ended up racing with Petter until the end. Todd Lodwick also had a good competition, finishing 6th overall after jumping to 7th. Brett Camerota, Eric Camerota, and Alex Glueck all finished in the top 20. Overall it was a relatively good comp. We were satisfied with the weekend.
I have to thank Erik Sandoy again for making this camp possible. As always, thanks to everyone for all your help and support in making our quest to be the best Nordic Combined Team in the world a reality.
No Excuses.
